Note: Posted jointly with the Season in Review Oh. The duel wasn’t over. Oops. Heh heh. Hassleberry’s the Strength…of course! That’s why he was so big a part of the final battle! It didn’t occur to me until his eyes went dinosaur that that was why Jaden, Aster, and Hassleberry all got a piece of the action but Syrus, the fourth good guy in the vicinity, didn’t. Syrus wasn’t as lonely and bored as I thought, being the only spectator left conscious and all (I had thought that he was about to step into a more-than-spectator role in all this also, because he wouldn’t have had much to do as the only spectator). Still, how did Aster recover from all that so fast? The Fool; it never got played! Unless… it’s usually not numbered…no, it can’t be Extra! No, no, I must be going ‘round the twist. The point of that was that Extra *wasn’t* a normal tarot monster. And besides, it was already called the Light Ruler. “Who’s in control?” was a question that seemed to get asked a lot in this duel, and who’s just a puppet. What, did they make a solemn pledge never to do a large multiparter duel again? Looks like it; this would have most likely been “The Hands of Justice III” in my book. In the original, you could measure how climactic and important a duel it was by the time spent on it, though that started to get a little insane with, say, A Duel With Dartz. That was the last huge one; even the Final Duel itself was only four parts. But still: Clash in the Coliseum, Friends ‘Til the End, Match of the Millennium… and by the way, the longest “parter” we’ve had in GX was actually three separate duels: Field of Screams I, II, and III. There has been nothing other than that higher than a two-parter, so I ask again, have the Powers That Write made a vow to never do a horrendous, incredibly long multi-parter again? I suppose there’d be a case to, but I feel a little miffed because it’s part of the genre. So Jaden created Neos and the other Neo-Spacians? Wow. I thought they had just been talking about the Chrysalis Dolphin and the Dandylion. Neos and his pals seemed a bit polished for a six- or seven-year-old, but then again, Jaden was most likely not your average six- or seven-year-old. Wait—what about Jaden, Syrus, Aster, and Hassleberry? *They* have medals…wonder if they’ll have the heart to burst Chazz’s bubble, or if it’s too late anyway? “Some things just can’t be predicted” seems to be another theme here. I was kinda surprised that Sartorius threw his tarot cards away like that, because sure some things can’t be predicted, but they still would have meant something to him, right? Guess not, though. The Prince and the Fool “happened” to blow around in the wind and show their faces. Coincidence? Ha! That was a KC helicopter piloted by Roland and Fugata! That is not just any helicopter! I would be more surprised if Kaiba *weren’t* also in that helicopter than if he were! And what’s the story behind that? How did Sarina get out of the computer? If I had to guess, I’d say that since she got trapped in a KaibaCorp computer, one of the techs, or even Kaiba himself, who’s even more of a computer wizard, could have gotten her out. Crud, so Zane’s stuck like that over the summer? Yowie! And by the way, lasting noticeably (as in we (the audience) know you’re there, you’re not beaten, and you’re a villain) as a villain over more than one adventure is something that has only been done before by…wow…no, I guess there isn’t any exception… Yami Bakura. Several things just occurred to me, when I was thinking about just what happens next and how the year ends. Who graduates (she asks, mind boggling at the thought of this seemingly simple chronology)? Is Aster staying at the school? Is Sartorius? Are Sheppard and the other teachers impressed enough with Blair that they’ll offer her a spot anyway? I note that Bastion would be free from the Light, because Chazz kicked his butt with the rest of the white dorm in his rampage with the Obelisks up to the main building. He’s probably either very confused or very upset right now; Chazz is not the nicest person to be saved by. And, to add to it all, Bastion’s going to be stuck with that bleached hair for a while. Poor guy; I really hope that he gets to do something other than be fodder for the bad guy and make a fool of himself next year. As you might’ve guessed, there *is* no next episode for a while… October to April, August to February, if the pattern holds, we should be getting our next season ‘round June or so, and it’ll end in December. Talk about insanity. Well, think that’s about it; Duel Identity I and II posts on the way. ‘Til next year, that’s all, folks! -Clio |
